Dr Chang graduated from UNSW and completed his physician training in at Gosford and Concord hospitals. He pursued further training as an Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fellow at the Western General Hospital Edinburgh, UK before returning to Australia to complete a further 6-month IBD fellowship. Post fellowship, he embarked on further research and was awarded a PhD in examining intestinal permeability via confocal endomicroscopy in inflammatory bowel disease from UNSW Sydney. During this period, he was awarded a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) scholarship in 2014 and Postgraduate Research Student Support (PRSS UNSW) in 2015.
Dr Chang has interests in inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease (viral hepatitis, fatty liver, liver cancer), reflux disease and cancer surveillance.

He is the clinical lead in IBD services and 1 of 2 clinical leads for liver cancer management at Nepean Hospital.
